3 Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that is appropriate for someone serving the Lord. They must not go around speaking evil of others and must not be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.
4 These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,
5 to live wisely and be pure, to take care of their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
There are five spacific instructions for women in the above verses:
1. Love your husband and children.
2. Live wisely and pure.
3. Take care of your home.
4. Do good.
5. Be submissive to your husband.
Some get hung-up on that last one: submission. Webster's 1913 Dictionary defines submit: To yield, resign, or surrender to power, will, or authority.
Ephesians 5:21-24: And further, you will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. You wives will submit to your husbands as you do to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of his body, the church; he gave his life to be her Savior. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives must submit to your husbands in everything.
It doesn't mean to have no opnions, but it means to willingly follow your husband's leadership in Christ. If both husband and wife are following Christ, each is concerned for eachother's happiness.
Where are you? Are you in a position to be an example to women younger than you (either in years or spiritually)? Are you in need of someone to be an example to you? Seek out someone you can either mentor or someone who can mentor you. If you are a mentor, it is important to teach by words AND example.
His Side of the Looking Glass: Seeing Yourself as God Sees You is a journey in shedding perception of self and encourages listeners to explore and deepen their relationship with God as they begin to see themselves as God sees them.
