Pamm's House
Is Going Green |
I never considered myself as living "green" until recently. When I thought about it, even without changing anything I'm already doing a lot of things in a green way and have been most of my life: buying most items from the thrift store and donate my discared items to the thrift store, I recycle what I can, I clean my floors with vinegar, I buy the 'green' version of laundry soap, I use recycled paper to print on, etc.
| I'm not sure when I decided to get more green; it has been over a long period of time. But now I make a concious decision to make green choices. Somehow, I had it in my head that being green was something too hard or too expensive to do. Now that I have the right idea--everyone can make green choices--I am finding more and more ways to become more and more green.
There are so many things you can do to become green from tossing a can into a recycle bucket to building a whole house out of green materials. Most of us will fall somewhere in between. |
 |
To start, just decide on one thing you can do. We started with getting a recycle bin from our trash removal service. Now we toss our plastics, glass, cans, and newspaper all in the bin. To our surprise, we have way less trash in the garbage cans and a bucket or two of recyclables. It just takes a second to think of where to toss an item of trash.

A bigger change is reducing or changing the type of cleaning products. I have switched to vinegar and baking soda to do almost every cleaning job in our house and child care. The same goes for my shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste.
I'm trying to find a green way to do more and more things. I sitll have a long way to go, but I have a good start.
|
So, now the decision has been made to become more green in my choices. When I think of it as a whole, it seems overwhelming. I have found making the changes one week at a time is much easier than looking at it as one huge change.
